The 2005 horror movie House of Wax is about siblings stumbling upon a creepy wax museum and there have been questions about a sequel for years. Nick Chad Michael Murray and Carly's Elisha Cuthbert road trip takes them to a small town called Ambrose where they meet Bo Brian Van Holt, who owns Trudy's House of Wax. By the time the main characters realize that Bo kills people and turns them into wax figures, they have to fight for survival. The reveal of Bo's twin brother Vincent is one of the more frightening aspects of the movie, which is a remake of the 1933 film Mystery of the Wax Museum. While the movie didn't do well at the box office, curiosity about Paris Hilton's House of Wax role brought the film attention, and it is considered an entertaining story. The House Of Wax Writers Would Love A Prequel, Not A Sequel House of Wax 2 isn't in development, and Carey W. and Chad Hayes, the writers of House of Wax, shared that they haven't had plans to make a second movie. However, the writers said that they would like to make a prequel to the horror film. Carey said, "We did float the idea of a prequel, after it [came out], but the studio's response is it didn't do any big numbers at the box office. If a prequel focused on Vincent and Bo's journey to running their frightening wax museum, then this is a story that feels worth telling. While the characters Nick, Carly, and Carly's partner Wade Padalecki aren't very memorable, the twins are unsettling. Their backstory is hinted at as it becomes clear that they used to be conjoined and that Vincent doesn't want anyone to see his real face thanks to the permanent marks there. The original film The Mystery of the Wax Museum is eerie and explains how a sculpture artist and their business partner decide to run such an off-putting place, and the prequel could follow suit. The House Of Wax Ending Wraps The Story Up Properly While sometimes an open-ended final scene can lead to a well-crafted and smartly plotted sequel, the final moments of House of Wax do offer a proper ending. Nick and Carly are able to leave the museum and the Sinclair brothers are both dead, which means that the threat and danger are over. The characters are in a car headed home and learn that Lester, an Ambrose resident who they met at the beginning of the film, is Vincent and Bo's sibling. Although this could suggest that Lester is still going to run the deadly wax museum, that's not possible because Nick accidentally lights the museum on fire. A memorable horror movie from the 2000s, House of Wax has a vague enough ending to add interest without obviously leading into a second film. A potential House of Wax 2 might not feel as rewarding as this ending does. Carly and Nick learn the truth about the museum, watch their friends get killed in gruesome ways, and are able to survive. The movie doesn't leave any questions to be answered or plot threads that haven't yet been connected, and without these elements, a sequel wouldn't work. Sequels tend to be at their best when there is more to say. A House Of Wax Sequel Would Be Too Repetitive In all likelihood, House of Wax 2 would feel like a repeat of the first movie, especially when it comes to the plot. When horror sequels are poorly received, this is often because they copy the original storyline and cast of characters. Since House of Wax 2 would likely feature another friend group discovering this strange place and being killed, that doesn't sound riveting. It would be impossible for this storyline not to feel redundant. I'll Always Know What You Did Last Summer, the third movie in the slasher franchise, simply copies what the first one did and, as a result, is less than thrilling to watch. The unique deaths in the movie also couldn't be emulated a second time. A second film would likely include the same types of kills, which would get old quickly and not stray far enough from the original story. Jared Padalecki's House of Wax death is so unforgettable that it seems impossible to recreate the same scene in a sequel. It's especially brutal to watch Vincent kill Wade and turn him into wax. Dalton Jon Abrahams attempts to save his friend and removes his skin, which is a powerful scene that offers up a hard to forget image that is also impossible to recreate again. Part of the entertainment of House of Wax was its famous cast, who were just beginning their careers in 2005 when the movie was released in theaters. Hilton was known for her "that's hot" catchphrase, Padalecki had just finished his turn as Dean Forester on Gilmore Girls, and Cuthbert was fresh off of The Girl Next Door but hadn't yet starred in Happy Endings, which would begin airing in 2011. A lot had to come together to allow his horror film to stand out and it would be tough to capture that same movie magic a second time around, making a House of Wax 2 seem needless.
